#116 - Emma Knaggs on Why We Need To Reform Our Electoral System

Emma Knaggs, the grassroots leader at Make Votes Matter was my guest on today’s show. Make Votes Matter are a single issue campaign for the reform of the UK voting system into a more proportional and representative one. They are a cross party group working to get more and more MPs on board with the idea of a PR system or something similar and hope to finally convince the Labour party to support their cause at this years conference. We talked all about how they plan to convince Labour to support their movement, why it is important to have a more representative system, and the downsides of our current First Past The Post system.

Richard Collett-White from DeSmog UK was my guest on today’s show. I wanted to get Richard on to chat about his article entitled, Lobby Groups Backed by Big Brands Resisting Clean Air Measures Across the UK. In the article he explores the different lobby groups who have been resisting low emissions zones in cities across the UK as part of campaign meant to improve air quality in our cities. Air pollution can have a detrimental effect on your respiratory health and even make you more susceptible to respiratory diseases, which seems pretty relevant at this moment in time.
