James N on Cyber Torture, Organised Harrassment, and Psychological Warfare

This might be the most insane episode I have done to date. My guest today asked to remain anonymous, so I will just refer to him as James N. During some research I have been doing about psychological and information warfare, I came across the term Cyber Torture. Cyber Torture is a pretty vast term, but one example is the harassment experienced by Julian Assange. There is ongoing research and investigation being conducted on this topic, including work done by Nils Melzer in co-ordination with the UN, and there are thousands and thousands of reported cases of individuals experiencing organised harassment and targeting of individuals. Whether you choose to believe James or not in his own story, there are thousands of studied and documented cases of cyber torture and organised harassment. If you don’t believe that, check out the expansive list of sources and articles that I have added in the description below, this is not wild accusations based on the ravings of a few mental patients. The conversation goes to some seriously crazy places so strap yourselves in.

Scott Santens on the Case for Universal Basic Income

Scott Santens, writer, full-time advocate of unconditional basic income (UBI), and editor of Basic Income Today was my guest on this episode of Chatter. I first heard of the idea of Universal Basic Income during my time at university and have been fascinated by the idea ever since. I’ve thought for quite a while that at some point in the future we may need to adopt some form of basic income to help offset the loss of jobs from automation (and right now because of covid) and this was a fantastic excuse to get Scott on my show to quiz him on everything UBI. We get into how to pay for it, why we should be pushing for it now, the creation of a gift economy, and how UBI could drive us away from cheap- throwaway consumerism.

Ruaidhri O’Donnell on Life Inside Corbyn‘s Labour Party

Ruaidhri O’Donnell, the former Labour staffer and head of the 2019 battle bus, was my guest on today’s show. I first met Ruaidhri when we were briefly working in the same restaurant in Belfast when I was at Queen’s University. Since then he has gone on to work for Open Europe and then found himself working his way rapidly up the ranks of the Labour party and into the offices of Jeremy Corbyn whilst he was Leader of the Opposition. For me this was a really fascinating episode as it gave me a chance to get an inside look at life inside Corbyn’s Labour and decipher how much of the rumours and accusations about internal sabotage, anti-Semitism, and the anti-Corbyn conspiracy in the media were based in truth and how much was just gutter journalism.
