Alexander Homits on the Connolly Youth Movement, Revolution, and Modern Imperialism

Alexander Homits from the Connolly Youth Movement was our guest on this episode of Chatter. Right now we’re experiencing what I’m sure will be looked back at as a really volatile and crucial period in the history of humanity. One thing is certain is that post-Corona the world is unlikely to quite the same and if we’re lucky we might be able to use this moment for some really positive changes. What is certain is that those changes are unlikely to come from the top, they will emerge or be demanded by grassroots movements. In trying to get an understanding of this I wanted to speak to someone involved in groups who are trying to imagine how that change might come about and that’s how I found Alex. We chatted about his critique of electoral politics, the EU and global finance as a new form of imperialism, and how the CYM is trying to build ways to force changes outside through trade and tenant unions.

Katie McQuillan on Creativity and Exporting the Northern Irish Identity

Our guest on today’s show was Katie McQuillan, a photographer and videographer from Belfast Northern Ireland whose work has been chosen by the World Health Organization to front their entire worldwide coronavirus campaign. Richie Prynne on Creativity, Busking and the Breakup of CC Smugglers

Richie Prynne, the former lead singer of CC Smugglers, was our guest on this episode of the show. CC Smugglers broke up at the end of last year after they lost over £20,000 borrowed from Richie’s Dad’s pension fund used to record their last album. They had recouped all the money using the crowd funding site Pledge UK who liquidated days before they were due to withdraw the money. This conversation went to a whole bunch of places that I did not expect, how Richie nearly tore his finger off days before an international tour, guerilla-busking, music in ancient temples and cathedrals, and silent meditation retreats.
