#232 - Melissa Ciummei on Financial Reset, Digital ID and a Social Credit System

Melissa Ciummei first came across my radar after I saw her speak at an anti-vaccine passport protest in Belfast. Once I delved further into her work, I saw that Melissa was discussing ideas of good and evil, financial reset, and above all, she was warning about the dangers of digital ID and a centralised system of control from the government based around smart cities and the promise of integration. I wanted to discuss this properly, not in a conspiratorial way, but in a way that lays out how the digital ID programs are being slowly eased into our system, why they aren't being discussed, and what the dangers are of a centralised system.

#231 - Andrew Feinstein on Neoliberalism, South Africa, and the Global Arms Trade

Andrew Feinstein is Founding Director of Shadow World Investigations (formerly Corruption Watch), an NGO that undertakes path-breaking investigations into cases of grand corruption, corporate malfeasance and militarism, predominantly but not exclusively in the global arms trade. Andrew was a former African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament in South Africa for 7 years before resigning in protest at the ANC's refusal to allow an independent and comprehensive inquiry into a multi-million dollar arms deal. ​
Feinstein has written two books on the illicit global arms trade, The Shadow World and After the Party, which is a detailed account of his time spent within the ANC and the cover up involving the arms deal scandal. Feinstein was educated at King's College Cambridge, the University of California at Berkley, and the University of Cape Town and also participated in the London School of Economics Distinguished Visitors Programme. #230 - Dr Brian Klaas on Corruptible: Who Gets Power And How It Changes Us

Does power corrupt? Or do those prone to corruption end up in power? It's an age-old question answered by Dr Brian Klaas in his brand new book "Corruptible: Who Gets Power And How It Changes Us". I was lucky enough to get a copy and read the book over Christmas. In the middle of a world in which I have witnessed politicians do horrendous damage as they try to help, I have often wondered whether it is corruption, malice, or incompetence that leads them to make decisions that can negatively impact the lives of thousands or even millions of people. After reading this book I've changed my beliefs somewhat - I am more sympathetic for the position that our leaders are in, though that may not excuse their actions. 
Dr. Klaas is an expert on democracy, authoritarianism, US foreign policy, American politics more generally, political violence, and elections. He is the author of three other books: "The Despot's Apprentice: Donald Trump's Attack on Democracy", "The Despot's Accomplice: How the West is Aiding & Abetting the Decline of Democracy," and "How to Rig an Election".
He has extensive research experience working in sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and the United States. Dr. Klaas has conducted field research in six different countries, interviewing prime ministers, presidents, ministers, rebels, coup plotters, dissidents, and torture victims in an array of countries, including Madagascar, Thailand, Tunisia, Belarus, Côte d'Ivoire, and Zambia.

There have been several disparate but converging forces operating within the UK over the past few years - a creeping authoritarianism, increasing polarisation and politicisation, and the pandemic and all it's associated problems. The issue for me is that too often the first two are dismissed as irrelevant due to the pandemic, when in fact, I argue that this crisis is the exact moment we must fight to retain our rights and freedoms. Austria is a country very close to my heart, so it has saddened me greatly to see what has become of such a wonderfully free place. It was my pleasure in this episode to get the time to speak to Austrian Bitcoin and privacy advocate Der Gigi - who has sadly left the country due to fear over covid restrictions. In this episode we dived into how Austria became one of the strictest countries in the world regarding covid laws, the plans for vaccine passports and digital ID's, why they are dangerous, and how Bitcoin can help us break out of our current system!

I've been having a lot of conversations with people about Bitcoin and other crypto-currencies and blockchain technology and about how they are going to change the world of finance. However, it wasn't until I got the chance to read Beyond Bitcoin: Decentralised Finance and the End of Banks by Steven Boykey Sidley and Simon Dingle that I really understood the full scope of how this space threatens the world of finance, what exactly DeFi is, and how NFTs are going to be so much bigger than just some neat pictures. We covered alt-coins, shit coins, dogecoin, NFTs, DeFi, Ethereum, yeild farming, and so much more!
After over a decade of Bitcoin, which has now moved beyond lore and hype into an increasingly robust star in the firmament of global assets, a new and more important question has arisen. What happens beyond Bitcoin? The answer is decentralised finance - 'DeFi'.
Tech and finance experts Steven Boykey Sidley and Simon Dingle argue that DeFi - which enables all manner of financial transactions to take place directly, person to person, without the involvement of financial institutions - will redesign the cogs and wheels in the engines of trust, and make the remarkable rise of Bitcoin look quaint by comparison. Ted Reese is a Marxist and the author of: Socialism or Extinction, Humanising Production, and the upcoming book The End of Capitalism: The Thought of Henryk Grossman. In this podcast Ted and I talked through the left wing or "Marxist" case against more covid restrictions, particularly the vaccine passports. We talked about why a lot of the left fail to see the damage being caused by lockdowns, the true reason for the struggling NHS, and the lack of opposition from the left about the dangers of vaccine passports. 
For anyone interested, I'm going to have several people from the other side of this issue on the show in January! It can sometimes be difficult to convince people to have that kind of discussion, hence why it has taken time to do this.
